«As people engage in acts that they make desires to cease, so does the undeveloped principle (prakriti) for the liberation of the soul» (Sāmkhya-kārikā, 58).
Happy Birthday Virgo!
The sun in transit in your sign represents your personal New Year’s. Every new and respectable beginning is a to take stock of the situation, to understand what has been achieved up to now and to draw up new resolutions for the coming year.
Intention and Action are the keys to achieve both spiritual or material goals. You must activate yourself. This activation requires a certain amount of energy and some effort. Energy is intrinsic in matter and matter is a function of the spirit, at least according to the Sāmkhya theory at the base of the philosophical system of yoga.
Take advantage, Virgo, of this symbolic moment to take stock of the situation and charge yourself with motivation to get what you want and express who you are. Here is a short sequence to help you:
Utkata-āsana, literally the unstable pose, but known as the powerful pose and the yogic chair too. Strong and firm on your legs, try to relax in this instability and in this effort. Take stock of yourself. // From 30 sec. to 1 min.
Vīrabhadra-āsana, second variation. Vīrabhadra is one of Śiva’s terrifying forms. Fierce, but fair in fighting for his cause. Symbol of courage, determination and self-assertion, the position reflects these qualities, which can be strongly felt during its execution. // 1 min per side.
Anuloma-Viloma prānāyāma, literally natural-unnatural breath, also called nādī-śuddhi or nādī-śodhana, that is cleansing of the channels. Use this technique to clarify and stabilize your mind. It will help you focus on what you think and act more directly for what you want to do. Try to exhale twice the time of the inhalation! // From 3 to 10 min.
TOTAL TIME: from 5 to 13 minutes.
MANTRA of the MONTH: «Try to understand where you are and start your sādhana from that point» (Shivānanda).
ATTENTION: each technique may have contraindications. Take proper information before practising. Ask your teacher for the correct execution. The recommended times are provided only as a guide, always adjust the practice to your own times and limits. Never force, positions must be comfortable and stable! For any doubt leave a comment below!
