Aquarius

Aquarius

« Concentration of the mind is [its] binding to a place».  (Yoga-sūtra, 3.1).

Still focused!

The month will be frenzied till the 13th, Aquarius, due to Mercury square. Stay focused on your projects, trying not to stress out in order to avoid disorder or mistakes due to carelessness. After this period you should be able to relax thanks to the Venus square that invites you to forget work for a while and seek out the fun. The New Year’s Eve figures to be positive with the Moon trine that should ensure harmony, vitality and good relationships.

Dhāranā is concentration. More precisely, it is the practice of keeping the attention on one object, trying to eliminate any distractions that may arise. After pratyāhāra, which is the effort not to be distracted by the objects of the senses, dhāranā is the  further step in order to eliminate internal distractions, thoughts that are unrelated to the object of concentration. This is the way to nirodah, the state of mindlessness.

Focusing on one thing at a time is the way to the serenity of the mind in the normal course of daily affairs too. The mind is agitated and anxious when it sees many things to do and sees them all together. Stay focused, Aquarius, on one thing at a time and you will be able to do all the tasks you need for your projects.

Improve your concentration with this short sequence:

Vriksha-āsana, tree pose. Balanced and stable on your legs. Keep your attention on a point to maintain balance. // 1 min. on the side.

Virabhadra-āsana, Virabhadra pose, third variant. Still a balance pose, but more slender and determined. // 1-2 min. on the side.

Concentration. Sit in a meditative position. Take a moment to relax all your muscles. Observe the state of  your mind. Then start counting from 1 to 7. Try to stay focused on the count, without leaving it in the background while the mind thinks of something else. Whenever you are distracted, start again from 1. // 5 to 10 minutes.

TOTAL TIME: from 9 to 16 minutes.

MANTRA of the MONTH: «Stay focused».
