Vritti – waves

«Vritti are of five types, and can be painful or not painful» (Yoga-sūtra, 1.5).

The word vritti can be translated as “wave”, “vortex”, “turn”, “turn around” and with many other nuances, most of which indicate a circular activity without beginning or end.

Like an ocean, the mind is crossed by waves of thought, which never allow to experience inner silence. We continually think about the past, we fantasize about the future, we are taken by what happens or what we believe happens, we are lost in the deep sea of ​​sleep, but rarely we leave a mental emptiness, a space to enter and understand how it is made the spirit beyond thought.

In this period, Cancer, you are prey to vritti more than ever. There is a sea of ​​reflections in which waves seem to go in a thousand different directions. On the one hand you feel tired and discouraged, on the other you are mentally charged with great ideals and daydreams. From one side you see enemies everywhere, from the other it seems to you that there is a sense of sweetness in the relationships you entertain. You are prone to great inner journeys to understand yourself, but at the same time you feel like you can’t do anything to change. Probably the only real risk is laziness, Cancer. Between words and deeds there’s a large gap, but you can get fill it sooner or later!

Be active with these exercises:

Chaturangadanda-āsana, four limbed staff. Strong arms make you feel the determination to get what you want. // From 30 sec to 1 min.

Garuda-āsana, eagle pose. Focus on what you want, set your goals even if they seem to be far away. // 1 min per side.

Concentration. Relax in a meditative position. Take some time to relax all your muscles. Listen to your breath. Observe the nature of the first thought that comes to your mind. For example «what my friend wrote to me made me really happy» – memory, you are thinking of a past event; «Sunday I will go for a walk» – fantasy, you can not foresee your future !; «My breath is quiet now» – correct knowledge, you are in the present, but it is still a thought; «This noise outside must be someone trying to enter the house» – wrong knowledge, the wind is causing the noise. In case observe if, exhausted , you risk falling asleep. Do this for every thought, observe its nature and let it flow away. Observe what remains. // From 5 to 15 min.
