SOLUTION:

HIPS AND KNEES

There are many points of alignment in parvata-āsana, sacred mountain pose. Hands, shoulders, knees should be even, at the same height. In the final position, however, there is another fundamental alignment: hips must at the same height as the knees. If your knees are higher than your hips, your back is struggling to stand upright and you will have to ask for effort to the lumbar area. The result will be a pose that is not so stable and confident, because it is kept with difficulty.

This is why legs in  padma-āsana are  so interlocked. The lotus pose in fact blocks the knees down. In the impossibility of keeping padma—āsana or the knees lowered, it is advisable to place a pillow or other support under the buttocks to raise the hips and bring them to same height as the knees. In reality, if the hips are higher than the knees, the pose is even more comfortable.
