Yukta -regulated

«There is no possibility of one’s becoming a yogé, O Arjuna, if one eats too much or eats too little, sleeps too much or does not sleep enough. He who is regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system» (Bhagavad-gītā, 6.16-17).

Among the various meanings of yukta, there is “appropriate”, “suitable”, “intelligent”, “joined”, “united”. It is not so far from the term yoga, if you think that it means “harnessed” too, just like the comparison, often used to describe yoga, of horses held in by the reins of the mind. Besides, Vivekananda said: «Most of us make our minds like a spoiled child, allowing it to do whatever it wants».

August is the month of fire, the month of Leo, which is opposite to Aquarius. All this fire arouses the Aquarian air, whose mental excitement can easily go out of control. Communications remain intense, but become animated, work turns on and relationships move. Everything can be positive as long as you remain aware of your position and your limits. If you want to push all this air into the desired direction, remember a concept dear to the ancient Greeks: katà metrón, according to your own measure.

IN PRACTICE

Tulita-āsana, scale pose.

Remember this balance on both legs as a symbol of balance in life. Practice every morning for 1 minute to start the day with the purpose of keeping yourself measured. Increase the time until you reach 2 minutes in the pose (mobilize and warm your hips, knees and ankles before).

Awareness exercise:

Every day try to note, mentally or written, the duration of a frenetic moment, be it a physical, verbal or mental frenzy. At night before sleeping, remain silent watching the breath for the same duration.

Mantra of the month:

“katà metrón”
