Niyama – positive duties
«Purity (śauca), contentment (santosha), austerity (tapas), self-study (svādhyāya), and dedication to Īśvara (Īśvara-pranidhāna) are the observances» (Yoga-sūtra, 2.32).
Niyamas are observances that purify body, mind and spirit. They allow you to know yourself and instill a sense of lightness, optimism and trust.
After a busy August comes a very quiet September. The first half leaves you with no particular influences, except for those born in the first decade who could undergo some changes. From the second half of the month things go even better with a nice positive atmosphere in relationships, at work, in the studies if you do. If you don’t, why don’t you start? After all, in such a peaceful moment it is worthwhile to apply yourself in some form of discipline, because it is easier to avoid extremism and rigidity and perform your duties to the fullest, with pleasure and tranquility.
IN PRACTICE
Bhagavad-āsana, the blessed-pose.
Stay focused and light at the same time. Practice it every morning up to one minute on each side.
Awareness exercise:
Take one of the niyamas, maybe the one you feel most lacking. Every day try to follow even a small gesture that goes in the direction of that observance.
Mantra of the month:
“With pleasant and measured discipline”.
