Rajas – hyperactivity
«O chief of the Bhäratas, when there is an increase in the mode of passion the symptoms of great attachment, fruitive activity, intense endeavor, and uncontrollable desire and hankering develop» (Bhagavad-gītā, 14.12).
The word that in the verse is translated as “passion” is rajas. I propose it as “hyperactivity”.
Rajas is one of the so-called guna, the modalities of existence. The condition of rajas implies a sort of acceleration both physical and mental. There is rajas when there is frenzy, when the movement is fast, when the mind is very awake, when the emotions are strong, uncontrolled, passionate. This aspect of life naturally has its advantages, because there are conditions in which it is necessary to be active and fast. As with everything, an excess of rajas can bring imbalances.
It’s your birthday time, Libra, and it’s a rajas time for you. The atmosphere of ferment makes you start again with the initiatives and the welcome you find encourages you on your way. Beware this does not make you too proud and thus overdoing both in activities and in the relationship with people. Be careful because your preparation period, which I was talking about last month, is not yet finished.
IN PRACTICE
Tulita–āsana, scales pose.
It should be your pose, shouldn’t it? Always remember the right balance. Perform this pose every morning for a couple of minutes.
Awareness exercise:
Watch yourself every time you have a lot to do. Can you give up one of the many things you have in mind at that time? Are you sure they are all indispensable?
Mantra of the month:
«Moderation».
