Yudh – fight

«Therefore, Arjuna, you should always think of Me in the form of Krishna and at the same time continue your prescribed duty of fighting. With your activities dedicated to Me and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without doubt» (Bhagavad-gītā, 8.7).

The theme of the Bhagavad-gītā brings great perplexity to those who approach Indian thought for the first time. The fact that Krishna advises Arjuna to fight seems to clash with the idea of a spiritual life and the idea of non-violence. Yet in this case for Arjuna fighting is not only his duty, but the lesser evil: abandoning the struggle would have disastrous consequences for everyone. Since it is a sacred duty, it is stripped of any egotism, any emotion, desire and attachment. For this reason the principle of non-violence is respected.

It’s a busy month, but luckily you can keep some control at least until somebody touch you in the heart of your extravagant ideas. Whatever criticism is made of you, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should abandon what you do. Instead, you have to keep fighting because it often takes time for your ideas to get acknowledged. Maybe you can work on this: how to communicate what you want to communicate. Remember that fighting is not by definition aggressive. Irritability is useless, but tenacity and trust are needed.

IN PRACTICE

Mahavira-āsana, the great hero pose.

Practice this pose every morning one minute per side. Feel determined and slender towards the future.

Awareness exercise:

Write on a piece of paper all the criticisms that are made to you, including those coming from yourself. Do the same for the compliments. In the last days of the month compare the two lists. Reflect on the compromise that you can find to bring criticisms to the side of compliments.

Mantra of the month:

«I believe in what I do».
