Abhinand – to welcome

«In the material world, one who is unaffected by whatever good or evil he may obtain, neither praising it nor despising it, is firmly fixed in perfect knowledge»  (Bhagavad-gītā, 2.57).

This verse reminds us one of the cornerstones of the yogin: equanimity. The yogin maintains detachment and accepts everything that happens with the same serenity of mind. He is never too sad or exalted. In the verse abhinand is mentioned in the meaning of “praise”, “to appreciate”. This word however means “welcoming”, “greeting”, “recognizing” and “rejoicing” too.

Since it is not easy to live as a yogin in this life, Sagittarius, you can put aside for a while the moderate wisdom of the Scriptures and think that it is good to recognize and welcome the good and enjoy it.

This beautiful year, Sagittarius, should have taught you so many things. Above all, it should have helped you overcome certain wounds that you believed were incurable, wounds for which you tended to see the world as unfair or yourself as wrong.

Jupiter will stay with you for a while longer, just for a last month. In this month, however, it joins Venus to give you the icing on the cake and convince you that life can be very beautiful too, you just have to welcome it.

IN PRACTICE

Ardha-chakra-āsana, half-wheel pose.

Try this pose every morning. Do not load your back to bend backwards, concentrate instead on opening and pushing your chest up.

Awareness exercise:

Sit in a meditative position. Think about the last time you experienced a beautiful emotion, not necessarily exciting, but positive. Think of the event that triggered it, what has changed in you or in your life. Then go back in time and look for another beautiful emotion experienced and repeat the same mental operation. Continue like this for ten minutes. Repeat this exercise once a week.

Mantra of the month:

«Open hands».
