Nivata – downhill

«The gentle breeze of summer and of autumn should be breathed (as it is attended with beneficial results to the health). A seeker after health and a long life should reside in a chamber, not exposed to strong blasts of wind (Nivata).» (Sushruta Samhita, Chikitsa-sthana, 62).

Sushruta Samhita is the most representative work of the Hindu system of medicine. This part of the text deals in particular with therapy, surgical emergencies, geriatrics, aphrodisiacs. To tell the truth, however, I chose this verse because of «not being exposed to strong blasts of wind». Nivata in general means “safe”, said of a person who is repaired. It also means “calm” in the general sense of absence of wind, absence of agitation. Eventually, it is also used to translate the sense of going “downhill”, therefore more easily, not against the wind.

Spring and the beautiful season opens for you, Gemini and it is right that you breathe the gentle breeze of spring and summer. As the month progresses, the clutches will loosen until you can slide forward without great tension. From Easter onwards I would say it is all downhill: you will have enthusiasm, energy, good relationships, good health and affection. Enjoy all of this, but without keeping your hands on it. If you’ve worked out a project in the past few months, it’s a good time to start working on it.

IN PRACTICE

Upavisthakona-āsana, downward angle position

This position takes advantage of gravity as the descents and if you relax, if you eliminate the resistances, it spontaneously brings you down. Exercise it every day for a couple of minutes working on the internal clutches!

Awareness exercise

Stay for 10 minutes outdoors, on the balcony, in the garden, in a park, in the sun but without exposing yourself to the wind. Look at the sky, breathe, observe the environment. Watch for changes in air and light. Do it at least a few times a week.

Mantra of the month

«The beautiful season».
