Upakrama – beginning
«The eternal syllable Om transcends past, present and future, it is the beginning of everything and the source of supreme ecstasy» (Maitreya Upanishad, 8.6).
Upakrama is a term that indicates the “entry into the form or being (of an action)”, the initial phase, the beginning of something, but also an enterprise, a job, a project, a plan or the planning of a project. In the Brahmin tradition upakrama is a kind of preparatory ceremony for reading the Vedas. It is interesting that the word means “heroism” and “courage” too. On the other hand, it takes courage to start a new project or a new business.

Think of the beginning by remembering the phrase quoted not only with the mantra of the month. Take five to ten minutes at least twice a week. Sit in a meditative position and repeat the syllable om for at least ten times. Listen to the sensations it gives you. This syllable is the primordial sound, the beginning of everything and at the same time it gives peace of mind and relaxation. Activity does not necessarily have to be hectic.
