Tula – unit of measurement

«Likewise a balance called parimāni, of twice as much metallic mass as that of samavrittā and of 96 angulas in length, shall be made. On its lever, marks such as 20, 50 and 100 above its initial weight of 100 shall be carved. 20 tulas = 1 bhāra. 10 dharanas = 1 pala. 100 such palas = 1 āyamānī (measure of royal income). Public balance (vyāvahārikā), servants’ balance (bhājini), and harem balance (antahpurabhājinī) successively decrease by five palas (compared with āyamānī)» (Kautilya Arthashastra, 2.19).

Birthday is always a good time to take stock of the situation. It is not just another year that passes, but a set of new acquisitions, small or big changes, experiences that have made you grow. It doesn’t take five minutes to make a serious assessment, but a long preparation is needed. November should be a fairly quiet month for you, so why not use it to prepare this beautiful inventory? You could also think about using “two weights two measures” because surely there will be facts that are royal, more precious to you, others of the harem, that is, related to intimacy, others coarser.

Tulita-āsana, balance pose

What better position? Repeat this every day for at least one minute.

Awareness exercise

For every event that hits you this month for better or for worse, take a couple of minutes right away or in the evening and think about whether something similar has happened throughout the year. Then think about what it aroused in you and how it changed you.

Mantra of the month

«I keep growing»
