Dvandvātīta – overcoming opposites
«Thus, there is no assault by the pairs of opposites» (Yoga-sūtra, 2.48).
Dvandvas are pairs of opposites: hot-cold, comfortable-uncomfortable, happy-unhappy, etc. Bhaghavad-gītā describes the enlightened person as the one who is free from opposites. In the Yoga-sūtra the same concept is referred to the physical body: whoever stabilizes himself in āsanas, manages to remain stable and comfortable beyond any sensation that can bring pleasantness or unpleasantness. It is the prerogative to concentrate the mind.
Aries is a sign used to reasoning in one direction: you just go there, no other way. You hardly contemplate greys between black and white and even with more difficulty you can transcend duality. If you overcomes it, it is only for the belief that side you’ve chosen is the right one.
This June, Aries, because of the many tasks, you feel at a crossroads Aries: get irritated and expect things to go your way or send everything to hell, relax and have fun so as not to give in to irritability. Of course, as with everything, there is a middle way and the good news is that you will be able to find it by the middle of the month. There will always be some hitch but you will know how to take it promptly and react well without falling into the dual conflict.
IN PRACTICE
Anuloma-viloma prānāyāma, regular irregular breathing
There is no better way to balance opposites and transcend them.
Awareness exercise
Whenever you perform an āsana during your yoga practice, carefully observe which opposites disturb your stillness and the stability of the āsana itself: Am I stiff or am I too soft? Do I like or dislike the pose? Find ways to overcome them during the practice.
Mantra of the month
«So ham»
(It is the sound of the breath. After all, the breath is also made up of opposites: inhalation and exhalation. In this case you cannot choose just one way!).
